Lamborghini has released its fastest, most powerful road car ever - but it will only sell three of the 355km/h Veneno two-seaters.
As Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche ready their reserved, eco-friendly hypercars, Sant’Agata preps the Lamborghini Veneno, a $4.6 million middle finger of a car.
Ever since the arrival of the Murcielago, people have been missing the rude, absurd, overdrawn, wonderful Lamborghini of the ’80s and ’90s. Audi’s take on Lamborghini started out fairly conservative, with relatively clean, classic shapes.
Images of the new Lamborghini Veneno leaked yesterday but it has now been officially unveiled ahead of its showing at the 2013 Geneva motor show.
Based on the V12-powered Aventador, the Veneno – which is expected to sell for about $4.5 million - gets a 552kW 6.5-litre V12 capable of launching the carbon fibre-bodied supercar to 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds.
The specs further list a 7-speed ISR automated manual, like the one in the Aventador, and a listed top speed of 220 mph. The styling, as you can see from the sketch, shows the typical Lamborghini flair for the dramatic, with a wedgy nose with multiple vents and scoops, and rear fender scoops to aspirate and cool the monster V-12.
The name is Spanish for “poison” but Lamborghini has a long history of naming its cars after Spanish fighting bulls, so we’re sure there’s some tie-in to that lineage at some level.
